RMB Return to Retro RewindMarch 12 2015
For the second year in a row, Retro Music Box was pleased to work with the City of Wanneroo, providing entertainment for the Retro Rewind festival in Yanchep this March.
Retro Rewind 2014 was a brand new festival for the City of Wanneroo. In partnership with Yanchep National Park, the aim was to provide a free event to experience all things retro, with a family focus, set in the beautiful surrounds of the park. A stage was erected under the trees, the hot-rods were brought in, and local vendors provided food, face-painting, button-making, and even a free vintage photo booth.
The event was a big success, with over 5000 attendees, and we were very excited to be able to provide three of our Retro Music Box bands for the day: Shotdown From Sugartown, Cottontail Trio & The Supper Club, and Stratosfunk. Our good friends Swing It ran free swing-dancing lessons during the breaks, with the audience participating enthusiastically, and then trying out their new moves when the bands started to play.
2015 saw the return of Retro Rewind, and with it a fresh line-up of retro-inspired bands. Off the back of their two Fringe World shows (read more here), The Darling Buds of May came out swinging to open the show. The Last Fair Deal followed and made the Yanchep crowd feel all of their feelings at once, with their heart-wrenching brand of raw blues and soul. We should mention that this was the first show of three for these hard-working folk that day – the next being the show opener for Stratosfunk’s Tell Mama: The Music Of Etta James at The Quarry Amphitheatre!
Just back from their UK tour, The High Learys closed the Yanchep stage with a bang; festival-goers dancing in the dirt to their 1960s covers and catchy original songs.
